Boston Ballet

The Langham Hotels and Resorts have spent more than a century building one of the hospitality industry’s most storied reputations for legendary luxury and unmistakable hospitality heritage. For its Boston property—a hotel defined by its Americana character and civic grandeur—the brand wanted a campaign that could carry that reputation forward and translate it into feeling, rather than a description.

The vision was to capture Langham Hotel’s timeless elegance with Boston Ballet’s world-class artistry, translating the euphoric dream of any Langham stay and any ballet performance into a single, shared experience. The guest is immersed into an experience that feels like being part of a ballet.

Using a top tier performance from professional Boston Ballet ballerinas, vivid primary colors to guide the focus, and hard Hollywood style lighting, the viewer is lifted into an exhilarated jubilation stay at the Langham Boston.

The Challenge

For the Langham, luxury hospitality marketing tends to rely on a familiar visual vocabulary — sweeping lobby shots, plated tablescapes, and quiet turndown service. For a brand with the Langham’s history and stature, that vocabulary undersells the experience. The Boston property needed a campaign that could break from category convention and communicate the emotional register of luxury, rather than its inventory of features.

For the Boston Ballet, the challenge ran the other direction: bringing world-class dance into a commercial hospitality setting without diminishing its artistry. Any partnership had to present the company’s dancers and choreography with the same rigor and respect they receive on their own stage—a genuine creative collaboration, not a backdrop.

The Opportunity

For the Langham, Boston’s Americana identity—its history, its civic grandeur, and its world-class performing arts institutions—gave Therium an opening to build something more ambitious than a traditional hotel spot. Partnering with Boston Ballet brought a world-class physical vocabulary of line, control, lift, and release directly into service of the brand’s central idea: that a stay at the Langham is itself a kind of elevated and unforgettable experience.

For Boston Ballet, the collaboration offered a new stage and a new audience. It was a chance to place the company’s dancers within a luxury cultural context, alongside a globally recognized hospitality brand, and to reach prospective patrons and guests who might never otherwise set foot in a theater. It reinforced the company’s standing not just as a performing arts institution, but also as a creative partner capable of shaping brand experiences at the highest level.

The Strategy

Therium built the campaign around a single governing idea: a stay at any Langham property should feel like being swept into a ballet, euphoric and staged as though for the guest alone.

  • Professional dancers from Boston Ballet performed throughout the hotel's interiors, turning the property itself into a stage and every space—lobby, suite, corridor—into a set, choreographed with the same care given a mainstage production.
  • We used a vivid, primary color palette as a directorial device throughout, guiding the eye scene to scene and heightening the emotional intensity of each moment.
  • Hollywood-style lighting gave the piece a theatrical, high-contrast, cinematic quality distinct from typical hospitality photography and video. The lighting treated the hotel with the visual language of a stage production, rather than a traditional real estate asset.

Together, these elements produced a single sensation: the guest lifted out of the everyday and into an exhilarated, jubilant stay at the Langham Boston. This dream experience was meant to represent any Langham property, anywhere in the world, while giving Boston Ballet's artistry a platform beyond the theater.

Results

For the Langham, the campaign delivered a distinctive piece of brand storytelling built around movement, color, and light—rather than the standard hospitality visual language. This approach reinforced the property’s Americana character while connecting it to the prestige of one of Boston’s flagship cultural institutions. It positioned the Langham not simply as a place to stay, but as an experience worth performing for.

For Boston Ballet, the partnership placed the company’s artistry in front of a luxury, hospitality-facing audience outside its usual subscriber base, reinforcing its identity as a world-class institution capable of extending its brand well beyond the stage.

The final production is a reflection in what's possible when a luxury hospitality brand and a world-class arts institution treat each other as creative equals—proof that hospitality storytelling and cultural partnership can be built from the same vision.
